2017

Willow Maze

In late January we got to work on planting our new willow maze! Day one saw volunteers come and harvest the willow we were growing in the Solar Field, and lay the membrane. Day two saw the pupils from Penllergaer come to kick off the planting; and Day three was a community open day, where anyone could come to help.

Story Trail
The first trail of the year was the return of our popular Interactive Story Trail! Children were given a book and sent to find clues to the story at various stops.

Dragon Hunt

Happy St David's Day! We celebrated by holding our annual Dragon Hunt, searching for the Llys Nini dragon.

PhotoDiary Exhibition
The PhotoDiary of 2016, as compiled by participants from ASDES, was rounded off with an exhibition of the best shots of the project. The work hung in Llys Nini's reception for the month, before being moved to Swansea University for display as part of their Festival of Autism.

Alice in Wonderland Easter Trail

Easter saw us unveil our biggest trail yet, with almost 800 visitors across the fortnight! Children had to count how many eggs the White Rabbit had left in the Red Queen's Maze (our new willow maze), the Tulgey Woods, the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, and the Flamingo Croquet Lawn.

Mayday Trail

May began with our annual May Trail, celebrating the signs of Spring!

Teddy Bears' Picnic

After last year's three-week washout, we set up the teddy bears' picnic again this year in the hopes of better luck. We managed half a week of no rain, anyway!

Bioblitz
In June we hosted our first ever Bioblitz! Experts in many fields came and led guided walks for the public, and the site species list grew and grew throughout the day. The Spot of the Day, though, was a newly-emerged golden-ringed dragonfly.

Tree ID Trail

The Tree ID Trail was the first of the summer holidays, and taught visitors to identify five common British trees: oak, hazel, sycamore, holly and ash.

Detective Trail
Who stole Mole's special glasses?! Visitors had to interview all five suspects and work out which animal was the culprit...

Hallowe'en Trail

Ghosts, goblins and ghouls abounded! This year, our woodland trail ran for ten days, but we also held four separate night-time walks where visitors had to navigate the haunted woods with torches. Spooky!

Christmas Trail
Five elf houses, each making a separate toy - but what were they!? After the Christmas Trail proved so successful we kept it up for the month - which led to us having to replace the willow houses we built with some sturdier wendy houses kindly donated by the public! But Christmas was saved, and everyone enjoyed.
